There are probably more (comparable) parallels between #StarTrek and #Stargate, even though, they are years apart, because Stargate is urban Sci-fi while Star Trek is not. But both are somewhat a mix of military and science (I know, Starfleet is only real military in 'Yesterday's Enterprise, but you get the idea),

@soft-scifi.isbrill.com@lordmatt and gods can usually be explained scientifically. They even have both their 'odd duck' shows: #DS9 is not spaceship-bound and #StargateUniverse is the first ship-based show (the Prometheus is only featured in a couple of episodes)

It's so sad that it was cancelled back then (not to speak of the acquisition by Amazon and the constant announcements of continuations of the franchise that go nowhere) and I've mostly heard that people don't like SGU as compared to SG-1 and SGA. I loved the darker tone, the more complex characters, some of them morally grey, not that type cast as in SGA that was just a mashup of SG-1.
@lordmatt@soft-scifi.isbrill.com It had so much potential, even though, the premise of Dr. Rush's findings were still slim at that point. However, the showrunners had already proven how amazing they were at worldbuilding (even though, I found the season 9 and 10 Ori plot quite awkward), so they could have totally pulled that off again over several seasons and really expanded the Stargate Universe (pun partially intended)
@lordmatt@soft-scifi.isbrill.com Oh, not to hate on the other two shows—SG-1, despite the penultimate and last season, had an outstanding run and Atlantis got there, even though, sometimes mixed ('Before I Sleep' is one of my favorite episodes of SGA), it got there and enriched the franchises rich mythology even further
